Gamut is a brand of handloom jewellery produced by weavers in central India. Our pieces are made to be seen, but are, equally, highly tactile objects. Czech glass beads are woven on fishing threads from Victoria Docks, Bombay, to make each unique piece, which is extremely detailed and entails countless hours of workwomanship.

While the first glass beads were made in Egypt and Mesopotamia more than 3,500 years ago, it was Marco Polo who, upon returning from his trips around Asia, started the beadmaking industry in Venice, an occupation traditionally assigned to women artisans.

The story of Gamut is similarly global. Inspired by African beaded jewellery and crafted in India under the direction of a Goa-based Spanish designer, the brand aspires to offer a sophisticated re-reading of crafts while promoting women’s empowerment in rural communities.

The word gamut is often used to refer to the range of colours; or, the full extent of the human eye’s ability to perceive the reflection of light on an object. Colours are moody, contagious and more elastic than we might believe. They deceive the eye and are highly subjective. Create your own gamut through endless combinations of colours; double up the necklaces and experiment with length or just play with them; forge your own unique range by building your personal collection of handcrafted jewellery.
